Minor Semi Final

posted 11 Nov 2013, 14:36 by Pro Killeagh Camogie

Sunday afternoon saw most people at home and cosy around their fires, such was the weather, but for minor Camogie players, mentors and parents that luxury was not an option. Castle road for the Minor A County Semi Final Vs The Glen was their destination and many thanks to those who came out to support the girls.

It took both teams a while to settle but after a few missed shots at goal it was down to business and no better girl than Hanna Looney to get us up and going. Hanna made a long run up from midfield to drive the ball over the bar. Glen Rovers had 3 points, 2 frees and a 45. Leah Mcevoy scored two 45s to draw us level for the first of many times in the game. Glen Rovers struck 4 unanswered points to leave the half time score 7pts to 3 in their favour.

Despite their dominance on the scoreboard our girls were well in the game and still up for the fight.

The second half began with a Glen point which now gave them a lead of five points. The rain poured down and spirits in the dugout were more hopeful than optimistic. Leah pointed yet another free but yet again the Glen pointed too, there was no getting away from them. The lightening didn’t strike in the sky it struck the pitch in the form of two goals. The first a well taken free by Leah was grabbed in the air by Ciara Daly and batted to the net, Laura Treacy drove the second cracker to the net. We were level again and all to play for. The mentors stayed firm but calm, the dugout encouraged the girls on. Glen Rovers pointed but yet again there was another free pointed by Leah. The whistle of Walter Cole blew and we would have another day. NOT SO, EXTRA TIME had to be played. The supporters were exhausted not to mind the girls. Extra energy was sent for (thanks Celia n Liam) and the girls were up and ready to go again for another 20 minutes. Despite our best efforts it looked as if there was more energy in the city side, and they fired over four unanswered points and it was half time yet again. As the sky darkened our girls began to get brighter. Each and every girl dug deeper, Leah had 2 points Ciara Motherway  celebrated her birthday in style with a super goal and we were level yet again. Laura Treacy pointed to put us in the lead but yet again The Glen replied. Try as we might another score was not possible and we have to have another go at it. This was a fantastic team effort from 1 to 21!

3-8 TO 0-17 was the final score.
